PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
